Stripes and Mirrors

photos by me and Brian

Pictures of what I wore to the Honolulu Museum of Art (and the contemporary art annex in Spalding House) when we visited it two weeks ago. Just two days before this outfit, I was in the bone freezing grip of the Polar Vortex back in the NYC. Needless to say, I was glad to be back in Honolulu's warm embrace. Also, I got to immediately wear the shirt and pants from J.Crew I'd bought on super sale during the winter break. I especially liked how it looked in front of the green tile background. The selfies in front of the mirror were taken facing a piece by James Seawright called--gasp!--Mirror XV, 1987.

Dancing Lady Orchid

photos by me and Brian

A break from lesson planning, reflection writing, and literature reading to post these pictures from ages ago, back when I had the luxury of having the time to visit botanical gardens in Honolulu and playing my favorite game of photoshoot. I can't believe these were taken a mere four weeks ago. Life was simpler back then.

Pearl Harbor, Part II

photos by me and Brian

Thank god for the Labor Day weekend. I needed to recover from what felt like the longest first day of school week ever. Before burying my head back in the books, here are some pics of my second trip to Pearl Harbor. This time around, the weather was thankfully less windy and the ferry taking tours across to the USS Arizona Memorial was running. Brian and I also checked out the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum. Squeezing through cramped submarine quarters and imagining our lives in an underwater hunk of metal was a fun time of child-like exploration that contrasted with the more somber and thoughtful earlier experience on the Arizona.

Nation's Capital

photos by me and Leo

I'm back in Honolulu and, with a little more than a week before classes begin, I've been reviewing the events of this summer. It was nice to be home for a good two months, considering I've only managed to be back in NYC for a couple of weeks at a time since I left for  Japan four years ago.  My previous post left off with my trip to Washington D.C., so here are some pics from that weekend:
